My Korean friends are all older than me.

I usually hang out wit people around my age 17-20 but when it come to my Korean friends, they’re a different story.  They’re all 21+ haha they offer to buy me drinks but I’m only 18 turning 19 soon.  I don’t drink anyways.

There was a big culture difference when I met them.  I’m not saying all Koreans are like this, just the ones I’ve met.  They hardly put on make up.  The guys like to question why American girls like to put on so much make up, and honestly I couldn’t really give a straight answer.  It really depends on the person if she decides to put on make up or not.

They don’t get their driver’s license until they are in their early 20’s.  I’ve had mine since I was 17.  They were all pretty shocked that I can drive.  They were pretty scared as well, you know me being a young driving and what not.

They really want to learn English.  English being one of the top languages in the world and the benefits of speaking, reading, and writing it are limitless.  With many Korean students going to school to be engineers, doctors, lawyers, businessmen/women, English can help you tremendously in those fields.  A plus for your resume as well.

Even though I was born in America, I do find a lot of similarities with my Korean friends.  Education, career, and being able to carry myself are important factors in my life.  I keep in touch with all my friends who went back to Seoul and they even tell me that they are proud of me for working hard with all I do.  They consider me their sibling or “sister” which is very common in the Korean culture when friends are close.  Hence, why most of them are very humble.  I can definitely see myself starting a family with a Korean man.

Since most of my female friends are all back in their country now, they only person I’m hanging out with is Taewook.  I have to admit I do get intimidated by him sometimes just because he’s 5 years older than me.  Like I said before I still not used to hanging around people who are older than me by that many years.  He’ll be moving back to Seoul sometime in the Summer.  Just in time for me to take him to the Lao New Year Festival.  I honestly think I’m the first Southeast Asian person he has met.  I hang out with a lot of Lao, Viet, and Filipinos and they’ve all been acquainted with him.  Just like me, they are all Korean obsessed as well so of course they asked him crazy questions.  Too bad I won’t be able to hang out with him until late March.  He was a little disappointed.  I need to get things straightened out this month and then be able to go out and have fun again.

All in all, I do hope to make more Korean friends.  I’ll also keep my eyes set out for that Korean dream guy I’ve always wanted.  Probably a Korean-American since it won’t be a while until I plan to study abroad, but who knows it could be a Korean guy.  If he looks anything like Junsu from 2PM or Taeyang, I’ll be on that in a snap haha!  I’m just kidding…half way.  As long as he shares the same values I do, we should be fine.  Going to make some half Lao half Korean kids ;) Laorean as I would say it hehe!
